WardsAuto tracks light-vehicle (LV) deliveries throughout sales reporting day. Monthly year-over-year change represents the change in daily sales rate (DSR).  January had 25 selling days this year compared with 24 days in 2016, meaning DSR % change will be less than straight volume % change for year-over-year comparisons this month.

FORECAST SUMMARY:

Automakers sold 1.16 million light vehicles over 25 selling days in January, resulting in a 46,005-unit daily sales rate compared with 47,442 in prior-year (24 days). The DSR was down 3.0% from like-2017.

The resulting seasonally adjusted annual rate is 17.07 million units, below the 17.75 million in the previous month and 17.34 million year-ago.

GM accounted for 17.3% of the market. Toyota, one of the few top companies to post a year-over-year gain, reached a 14.5% share. Ford came in third (13.6%), followed by FCA (11.5%). The No. 5 spot was held by Nissan at 10.7%. Honda took 9.1% of the market.
