Vehicle sales in Malaysia rose 2.6% year-on-year in October to 53,654 units and while the result was up 21% from September, the Malaysian Automotive Assn. expects deliveries will drop in November.

New-car sales of 47,493 units in October inched up 2.2% from 46,439 prior-year, while commercial-vehicle deliveries increased up 8% to 4,435 from 5,858 a year earlier.

The result left the 10-month total at 503,898 units, down fractionally from 505,546 year-ago.

The association expects lower sales this month because of flooding in neighboring Thailand, which will disrupt complete-knocked-down and completely built-up vehicle production as well as parts supplies.

Malaysian output fell 5.1% to 49,984 units in October from prior-year’s 52,698. Passenger-car output slipped 6.2% to 45,549 units, while CV production climbed 8% to 4,435.

After 10 months, production of 466,400 units was down 4.8% from 489,929 in like-2010.

Passenger-cars output dipped 5% to 428,550 units, while CV assemblies slipped 2.5% to 37,850.
