New Zealand Light-Vehicle Sales Surpass 2012 Total
Commercial vehicles sold in record numbers for a third stright month, while car sales posted their best November result since 1984.
New Zealand’s commercial-vehicle sector is headed for a record year after November deliveries soared 40% from like-2012 to a record 2,935 units.
Motor Industry Assn. data shows it was the third consecutive month of record CV sales. It began collating data in 1981.
The CV deliveries pushed the industry up 21.1% for the month to 10,388 units from prior-year’s 8,581, as new-car sales rose 15% to 7,453, the highest November result since 1984.
Toyota led the November CV market with 789 deliveries and a 26.9% share. The Toyota Hilux was the top-selling model with 585 units for a 20% market share. The Ford Ranger followed with 16% (482), ahead of the Holden Colorado at 9% (255).
Toyota easily retained the largest share of the car market with 23.4% (1,746 units), followed by Holden, 9.2% (685), and Ford, 8.3% (618).
The Toyota Corolla was the top-selling car model with an 8% share (626 units), followed by the Toyota RAV4 (4%) and Holden Commodore (3%).
Toyota remained the light-vehicle-market leader in November with a 24.4% share (2,535 units), ahead of Ford, 11% (1,146), and Holden, 9.2% (952).
SUVs represented 26% of all vehicle deliveries, followed by pickups/chassis-cabs (19%), and small cars (18%).
The 11-month CV total was up 28% to 28,419 units, with the market-leader Hilux rising to 4,583 units (16%), just ahead of the Ranger, improving 15% to 4,352. Car sales through November were up 7.5% to 75,989.
MIA CEO David Crawford says the latest results already put the industry ahead of 2012.
“There have been more new vehicles sold than for all of 2012 – 104,408 year-to-date 2013 compared to 100,795 for full-year 2012,” he says in a statement.
