New-vehicle demand remained strong in New Zealand in November, with sales jumping 17.1% to 8,518 units for an 11-month total ahead 19.0% to 93,044.

New passenger-vehicle sales rose 14.9% in November to 6,484 units, while commercial vehicles climbed 24.5% to 2,097.

Motor Industry Assn. CEO Perry Kerr says the goal of surpassing full-year sales of 100,000 units looks achievable.

“Analyzing the various segments for November, the SUV market continues to dominate, taking 28% (2,416 units) of total new-vehicle registrations, followed by the small (car) segment with 20% (1,686), with the light-commercial-utility market accounting for 16% (1,369) of total registrations,” Kerr says in a statement.

Toyota retained its clear lead in the market with 1,190 passenger-vehicle deliveries in November, followed by GM Holden with 673. Hyundai moved into third place with 624.

The Japanese auto maker has an unbeatable lead with 11-month new-car sales of 18,918 units, well beyond Holden (10,421) and Hyundai (8,863).

In the commercial-vehicle segment, Toyota delivered 578 units, ahead of Nissan (253) and Ford (231).

Again, Toyota dominated with 11-month sales of 6,128 units. Ford was a distant second (3,302), ahead of Nissan (2,516).

The Toyota Corolla was the best-selling car in November with 462 units, while the Toyota Hilux led the CV segment with 350 deliveries.
