New Zealand Sales Break 14,000-Unit Barrier in October
New-vehicle deliveries are up 8.6% so far this year, a sign of confidence in the economy, an industry official says.
New Zealand’s new-vehicle market smashes all records in October, soaring 16% to 14,709 units.
Motor Industry Assn. President John Manley says it was the highest any-month total on record, shattering the previous mark set in July 1984 of 13,983 units.
“It is also the first time that more than 14,000 new vehicles were registered in a month,” Manley says in a statement.
October sales included 10,795 cars and SUVs, plus 3,914 commercial vehicles.
The result left the year-to-date total up 8.6% at 121,815 units.
Toyota remained the overall leader in October, delivering 3,287 vehicles for a 22% market share. GM Holden followed with 1,866 units, ahead of Ford (1,624).
The car/SUV segment saw Toyota on top with 2,468 units, ahead of GM Holden (1,490) and Mazda (912). Ford retained the CV leadership with 839 units for a 21% segment share, outpacing Toyota (819) and GM Holden (376).
Toyota’s Corolla was the top-selling passenger vehicle for the month with 1,210 units, easily ahead of its nearest competitors, the Toyota Yaris (362) and Holden Commodore (356).
The Ford Ranger remained the top-selling CV in October with 768 deliveries, outdistancing the Toyota Hilux (512) and Holden Colorado (345).
Manley says new-vehicle sales are a barometer of confidence in the economy by both the business and consumer sectors.
