Russia Sales Off in November, But Slowdown Rate Eases
“The long-awaited flattening of year-on-year sales trend has yet to happen,” an industry spokesman says. “We hope December will show progress in this direction, and deliver a decent close to an otherwise difficult year.”
The Russian auto industry’s retreat continued in November with deliveries down 4% year-on-year to 231,982 units.
The Association of European Businesses’ Automobile Manufacturers Committee says the latest result left the 11-month total down 6% to 2,513,163 units.
“No question, the total industry is still declining, albeit at a slower pace,” committee Chairman Joerg Schreiber says in a statement.
“The long-awaited flattening of year-on-year sales trend has yet to happen. We hope December will show progress in this direction and deliver a decent close to an otherwise difficult year 2013.”
Final results for 2013 will be released Jan. 15, together with the committee’s 2014 market forecast.
Top-seller Lada deliveries fell 19% in November to 36,509 units, leaving it down 16% year-to-date to 417,361.
Second-place Renault bucked the trend, rising 3% to 17,721 units and growing 11% after 11 months to 191,215. Third-place Kia closed the gap as it jumped 16% to 17,399 deliveries and went up 5% on the year to 181,994.
Chevrolet maintained its No.5 brand ranking despite sales slumping 18% to 13,576 units in November, leaving its year-to-date result off a similar 18% at 155,894 units. Ford finished in ninth place with deliveries slipping 20% to 8,928 units for an 11-month total down 19% to 94,358.
The AvtoVAZ-Renault-Nissan Group saw deliveries decrease 19% in November to 69,482 units for an 11-month total down 9% to 745,088. That left it well clear of the Volkswagen Group, down 9% to 25,135 units and off 6% year-to-date to 272,608.
General Motors was third, down 13% for the month to 19,670 units and off 13% after 11 months to 229,872.
The Lada Granta remained Russia’s top-selling model, down 5% in November to 12,190 units, but jumping 43% for the year to 154,024. Its nearest rival was the Hyundai Solaris, up 4% for the month to 9,672 units and ahead 2% for the year to 105,167.
Ford’s Focus was in ninth place in November after tumbling 34% to 4,830 units, but it remained in sixth place year-to-date despite a 28% backslide to 59,552.
The Chevrolet Cruze dropped out of the top 10 models in November as deliveries plunged 36% to 3,638 units, but it managed to hold onto 10th place after 11 months, despite falling 14% to 50,106.
