Keep sales people on their toes when it comes to product knowledge. I carry around in my pocket new dollar coins. I will ask a question about the features on a vehicle and if the sales person gets it right they get a buck tossed to them.
It's a small token of appreciation, but it's effective. This way the sales staff doesn't mind the boss coming around, and they work a little harder on their product knowledge and competitive awareness.
