Daimler to Take Over Ford’s Stake in NuCellSys

NuCellSys currently is part of the Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation JV between Ford and Daimler that is centered on the former automotive division of Canadian fuel-cell developer Ballard Power Systems.

VIENNA – Daimler AG plans to acquire the remaining 50% interest in NuCellSys Holding GmbH, a developer and manufacturer of fuel-cell systems for automotive applications based in Nabern, Germany.

It will purchase the shares from Ford Motor Co.

A NuCellSys spokesman confirms the plan, but declines to provide details.

NuCellSys currently is part of the Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation JV between Ford and Daimler that is centered on the former automotive division of Canadian fuel-cell developer Ballard Power Systems. AFCC was established in late 2007.

NuCellSys is responsible for system engineering and design and component and software development, as well as system validation and integration.

The company has run small-scale series production of fuel-cell systems since 2003.
