GM Targets Astra Gains In Antwerp
General Motors Corp. is seeking a 27% cut in the hours it takes to build a vehicle at its Opel Astra plant in Antwerp, Belgium. When the next Astra begins production in 2008, GM expects an hours-per-vehicle (HPV) rate of 16, down from the current 22. The task is complicated due to product mix. Antwerp assembles 5-door and wagon versions of the acclaimed Astra C-car.
