Hyundai HND-9 Concept Next Genesis Coupe?
The car’s butterfly doors seem theatrical and not a harbinger of things to come, but the body language may hint at a future Genesis Coupe expected as a ’16 model.
Hyundai releases renderings of its upcoming HND-9 luxury sports coupe concept, slated to bow at the Seoul auto show March 28.
Designed entirely at the Hyundai’s research and development center in Namyang, South Korea, the rear-drive high-performance car is powered by a 370-hp, turbocharged 3.3L direct-injected engine mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The butterfly doors seem theatrical and not a harbinger of things to come, but the body language may hint at a future Genesis Coupe expected as a ’16 model.
The HND-9 code signifies “Hyundai, Namyang, Design 9,” designating it as the R&D center’s ninth Hyundai concept.
The Namyang operation also has developed some of Kia’s concept cars, including one making its world debut at the Seoul show. The auto maker doesn’t plan to reveal any details until Monday, March 25.
The HND-9 features a long Aston Martin-type front end and the dimensions of the current Genesis coupe. Hyundai calls the concept “a modern reinterpretation of the elegant image of a classic premium sports coupe.”
