Canada’s Big-Truck Market Sees Big Gain
September marked the sixth straight month of year-over-year increases.

Demand for medium- and heavy-duty trucks jump 50.1% from year-ago to 2,836 units in September, largely on the strength of Class 8 sales.
It marks the sixth straight month of year-over-year increases in the big-truck market. But unlike July and August, when only two segments rose above like-2009 levels, September saw all five classes gain.

Truck makers delivered 1,684 Class 8 models in the month, up 59.5% from like-2009’s 1,056.
Segment-leader PACCAR Inc., which to date has more than doubled year-ago volumes, saw sales rise 66.8% in September to 542 units. All other manufacturers posted strong gains, as well, with Volvo Trucks North America notching the biggest percentage increase at 129.5%.
The medium-duty sector also enjoyed a solid month, rising 38.3% on volume of 1,152. Each of the four classes registered healthy double-digit gains, ranging from 10.2% for Class 5 to 69.1% for Class 7.
Through the first nine months, total medium- and heavy-duty sales were up 18.6% from year-ago.
