Irish New-Car Deliveries Continue Slide in February
An industry official predicts deliveries will fall 15% this year, resulting in a market of 76,000 units.
Irish new-car sales remain weak, with the February result off 8.6% to 11,489 units, leaving the year-to-date total down 2.5% to 32,742.
Deliveries came to about half the January total of 21,313 units.
The Society of the Irish Motor Industry says 50% of annual new-car sales occur in the first quarter. SIMI Director General Alan Nolan predicts deliveries will fall 15% this year, resulting in a market of 76,000 units.
Volkswagen, with 1,424 units, won the February sales race, edging Toyota, with 1,404, and Ford, with 1,124 in third.
Toyota continues to lead the market with 2-month sales of 4,822 units, ahead of VW’s 4,037 and Ford’s 3,802.
Light-commercial-vehicle deliveries in February slipped 3.2% to 1,414 units for a 2-month total down 8.0% to 3,658.
Ford sold 314 LCVs last month to raise its segment total to 779 units. VW followed with 205, for a 2-month total of 702.
