The up-and-down market for big trucks in Canada rebounded again in June, as combined Class 4-8 sales jumped 24.6% from year-ago on a daily-rate basis, recording a volume of 4,057 units.

The performance offset a 12.1% drop in May to bring volume up 0.5% to 20,527 units for the first six months of 2014.

The heavy-duty sector led the charge in June, with deliveries rising 29.6% daily on 2,756 units for the month. Volvo posted the biggest gain, with sales up 68.1% to 793, while segment leader Daimler also posted a double-digit jump, up 19.3% to 914 vehicles.

Classes 4-7 combined for a 15.2% uptick to 1,301 units in June, with all but Class 4, down 35.4%, boasting double-digit increases.

Volume leader Class 5 gained 12.8% to 705 units, mainly on the strength of a 61.2% spike in Chrysler sales. Class 6 rose 55.2% to 139 trucks, while Class 7 posted the biggest gain, up 33.4% to 367.

June continued the every-other-month pattern in Canada’s big-truck market in 2014 that has seen sales alternately down, then up in every month beginning with January’s 0.4% shortfall from like-2013.
