Malaysia’s Perodua Cultivating Green-Car Plant
The plant began production in August 2014 and had built 38,000 Perodua Axias by the end of 2015.
Malaysia’s first certified energy-efficient-vehicle (EEV) manufacturing plant officially opens, with national car company Perodua saying it takes it a step closer to becoming a global player.
Perodua subsidiary Perodua Global Mfg. began construction in March 2013 of the 689,000 sq.-ft. (64,000-sq.-m) plant costing 1.3 billion ringgit ($294.7 million) to build and equip.
“PGMSB is one of Perodua’s main transformation initiatives to become a globally competitive brand in terms of quality, cost management and delivery,” Perodua Chairman Asmat Kamaludin says in a statement.
Perodua’s latest and most advanced manufacturing plant was officially opened by Minister of Domestic Trade Co-operatives and Consumerism Hamzah Zainuddin.
The plant began production in August 2014 and had built 38,000 Perodua Axias by the end of 2015.
Asmat says the plant and its staff will serve as a role model to the rest of Perodua as it attempts to further improve its operations on a global level.
