North America light-vehicle production reached a 15-year November high totaling 1,437,973 builds – 5.6% above like-2014 – and breaking several records throughout the market. This also parallels record-breaking sales figures across the region.
Mexico plants assembled 295,937 light vehicles, highest ever for November by topping the record set a year ago by 4.81%. Production also was up in the U.S., where 927,472 LVs were built, the highest November since 2002 and up 7.26% from last year. Canada remained nearly flat with year-ago at 214,564 units.
Light trucks alone recorded a best-ever November in at least the past 30 years, up 13.42% from year-ago to 884,624 units. This followed October’s total, which was an all-time any-month high.
The biggest growth among all segments was posted in pickups with a 26.7% increase over same-month 2014. Output of large cars was close behind with a 23.86% gain, but not enough to stop the overall car output from falling 4.89% from year-ago’s total to 553,349 completions.
BMW, Nissan and Subaru contributed to the month’s increased production, each building a record number of LVs with 32,422, 152,539 and 25,654 units, respectively. However, of all manufacturers with a long history of building vehicles in the region, Ford had the biggest growth over November 2014, with a 20.66% increase to a total of 263,736 builds.
Year-to-date LV production heading into the last month of 2015 was 3.14% above the same period last year with a total of 16,202,902 units. December’s estimated North American output of 1.24 million LVs means the year will end at an all-time high of 17.44 million.
