NZ Market Records Best April in Decades
Year to date, the market is up 13% to 39,588 units, with the cars rising 12% to 28,982 units and the CV segment ahead 18% to 10,606 units.
New Zealand’s new-vehicle market puts in its best April performance in 32 years, as deliveries rose 7% to 8,729 units.
New passenger-vehicle demand climbed 4.0% to 6,151 for the month, while commercial-vehicle registrations jumped 15.0% to 2,578 units.
Releasing the figures, Motor Industry Assn. CEO David Crawford says April sales remained strong despite breaks for Easter, the ANZAC war commemoration day and school holidays.

Toyota was the overall market leader in April with 1,384 deliveries for a 16% share. Ford followed with 985 sales for 11%, ahead of Holden with 915 and 10%.
Toyota Corolla was the top selling passenger model with 5% market share (298 units) for the month, followed by Nissan X-Trail on 4% (238) and Holden Commodore also at 4% (217).
After four months, Toyota leads the market with 6,376 units (16%), comfortably ahead of Ford at 4,269 (11%) and Holden with 3,841 (10%).
The Ford Ranger was April’s top-selling CV with 513 units, ahead of the Toyota Hilux (377) and Holden Colorado (231).
