VIENNA – Adam Opel starts volume production of its facelifted Opel/Vauxhall Insignia flagship model at its plant in Russelsheim, Germany.

The upgraded Insignia range will debut at the Frankfurt auto show that opens to the international media Sept. 10.

The car receives a modified front and rear, a new cockpit and the latest-generation infotainment system with intuitive operation.

The Insignia’s engine portfolio now includes a choice of gasoline, diesel or liquefied-petroleum-gas fuel and offers power ranging from 110 hp to 325 hp.

The new engines include a 2.0L turbodiesel with 140 hp and two direct-injection turbocharged gasoline units, a 1.6L with 170 hp and a 2.0L SIDI delivering 250 hp.

The entire Insignia portfolio, which includes the 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback, Sports Tourer wagon and the sporty OPC version, has been renewed. A new member of the family is the Insignia Country Tourer with all-wheel drive and higher ground clearance.

Opel launched volume production of the Insignia, a successor to the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra, in October 2008. All models are manufactured in Russelsheim.

To date about 600,000 units of the Opel flagship have been built, with the most important markets being Germany and the U.K. Last year’s builds totaled 95,186.
