Russia New-Vehicle Deliveries Slip 10% in August
The Association of European Businesses Automobile Manufacturers Committee says the result was expected, but it still believes the market may stabilize toward year’s end.
Russia’s new-vehicle sales slump continued in August with deliveries down 10% to 231,915 units, lowering the 8-month total 7% to 1,799,805.
The Association of European Businesses Automobile Manufacturers Committee says the result was anticipated.
“Expectations for August were moderate to begin with, and in this sense the actual result does not disappoint,” committee Chairman Joerg Schreiber says in a statement.
August sales fell 1% from the July result, which he says is typical for the season.
“Looking ahead, we maintain our expectation that the market has good chances to stabilize towards the end of the year,” Schreiber says.
Lada continued its market domination despite falling 24% in August to 39,079 units for an 8-month total down 13% to 303,357.
Kia finished the month in second place, up 6% to 17,013 units, but remained in third place year-to-date, despite a 4% improvement to 128,982.
Renault was fourth in August sales, climbing 23% to 15,181 units and retaining second place year-on-year with an 11% increase to 137,827.
Chevrolet followed, falling 19% to 15,984 units last month to rank fifth on the year with deliveries slipping 18% to 111,671. General Motors overall saw a 16% drop in August to 23,031 for a year-to-date total down 13% to 165,771.
Ford ranked eighth in August, with sales decreasing 17% to 8,938 units for a year-to-date total down 18% to 69,354.
The AvtoVAZ-Renault-Nissan Alliance saw August deliveries tumble 24% to 66,495 units, but it maintained a comfortable lead over Volkswagen Group, whose sales backslid 9% for the month to 24,547, leaving its 8-month total down 4% to 197,219.
The Lada Granta bucked the auto maker’s slide, rising 20% in August to a best-selling 14,951 units and a year-to-date result up 70% to 113,734.
Hyundai’s Solaris followed, up 8% for the month to 8,590 units, leaving it down fractionally after eight months to 75,081 units from 75,334 prior-year.
Kia’s New Rio was third, up 8% to 7,159 units for August, putting it ahead 5% year-to-day to 59,046.
The Chevrolet Cruze ranked fourth in August, with deliveries improving 4% to 6,294 units, but it remained in ninth place year-to-date, down 9% to 37,590.
The Ford Focus occupied sixth place with an August result down 24% to 5,837 units. Year-to-date sales also fell 24% to 45,750.
