The auto maker is launching with the sedan version of the Vida, but volume production of a Vida hatchback will follow at ZAZ’s Zaporozhye plant later this quarter.
The Vida is available with 84-hp 1.5L and 94-hp 1.4L gasoline engines. A 70-hp 1.3L gasoline 4-cyl. may be added later.
The base price for the Ukrainian market is 90,880 hryvnia ($11,320).
In addition, a Vida-based light-commercial vehicle developed by ZAZ is expected to be launched in the second half of the year.
ZAZ plans production of about 16,000 Vidas this year. Half that volume is intended for export to other Commonwealth of Independent States countries. Shipments, mainly to Russia, are due to start in the second quarter.
Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych, a Polish car plant controlled by ZAZ parent UkrAvto, produced the previous-generation Chevrolet Aveo through February 2011 under a contract with General Motors.
In addition to the Vida, the Ukrainian auto maker manufactures ZAZ Lanos/Sens sedans and hatchbacks, a model range based on the old Daewoo Lanos and sold as the ZAZ Chance in Russia and other CIS countries. An LCV version of the Lanos also is available.
AgromashHolding launched assembly of the ZAZ Chance at its plant in Kostanay, Kazakhstan, from semi-knocked-down kits sourced from Ukraine last month.
ZAZ also produces ZAZ Forza sedans and hatchbacks based on the Chinese-made Chery A13. Those cars are exported to Russia as the Chery Bonus sedan and Very hatchback.
The auto maker assembles Kia cars from semi-knocked-down kits for the local market.
ZAZ manufactured 60,862 cars last year, up 33.9% from 2010. Plans call for the production of about 67,000 units this year.
