Surveyed motorists say they will react to rising gasoline prices by driving less often (52%), driving shorter distances (24%) and cutting down on driving to see family and friends (23%).

The majority (61%) polled by Progressive Group of Insurance Companies say higher gas prices will affect their summer vacation plans. They will vacation closer to home (24%), cancel vacation plans altogether (14%), fly instead of drive (13%) or take short day trips instead of driving to a destination farther away (11%).

As a result of rising gas prices, three out of four drivers plan lifestyle changes. That includes doubling up on groceries in order to make fewer trips (47%), talking on the phone rather than seeing friends and family in person (41%) and watching more TV (40%).

Meanwhile, 93% say they'd drive out of their way to save 20 cents a gallon on gas.
