Jeep unveils its mild-hybrid Avenger 4xe with its full-time all-wheel-drive system.
The new car features the brand’s Hybrid 48-Volt powertrain combined with automatic 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
This powertrain employs a 1.2L turbocharged gasoline 3-cyl. claiming 136 hp, boosted by dual 28-hp electric motors positioned both at the front and rear of the vehicle. Its hybrid system allows drive in full electric mode at low speeds and also features short-term performance hikes with the E-Boost function in Sport mode.
Second only to the 156-hp battery electric Avenger, the 4xe powertrain claims the highest power and torque output in the gas-hybrid range, with 36 hp and 18.4 lb.-ft. (25 Nm) more than the e-Hybrid front-wheel-drive version. Claimed performance is a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h) and a 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of 9.5 seconds.
The powertrain, combined with the 22.7:1 reducer placed on the rear axle, claims a rear wheel torque of 1,400 lb.-ft. (1,898 Nm). Jeep says this allows climbing of slopes of nearly 40% on terrains such as gravel and up to 20% when there's no grip on the front axle.
Off-road improvements also include a 10-mm (0.4-in.) increase in ground clearance and the ability to ford up to 400 mm (15.7 ins.) of water.
Global orders will open by Q4 2024.
Eric Laforge, head of Jeep Brand in enlarged Europe, says: “Avenger is one of the biggest success stories of Jeep in Europe with more than 90,000 orders from final customers, of which almost 30% are for full electric. In the wake of this success, Avenger 4xe will be the new benchmark in the “B- SUV” segment, offering exclusive design, top performance and representing the full expression of Jeep legacy on all-wheel drive.”
