The head of the Lexus Div. sees double when it comes to his vision of a super car for the luxury brand of Toyota Motor Corp.
Denny Clements, Lexus group vice president and general manager, sees room for both a super sports car and a cruising sedan as future flagships.
“I think the next-generation LS will be significantly more substantial than the current-generation LS,” Clements says. “But even beyond that, we think the case can be made for a flagship sedan and the case can be made for a flagship sports car.”
The LS platform could be stretched to create a $100,000 flagship, but it “needs to be LS plus, plus, plus.”
The Lexus chief sees an equally compelling argument for an iconic sports car. “My view on a sports car is if it doesn't go 200 mph, then it's not a flagship sports car. It's just a sports car.”
