Maserati plans to make a splash at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January with the unveiling of its redesigned Quattroporte sedan.

Fiat’s sports-car arm is targeting volume growth to 50,000 units annually worldwide by 2015, and the new sedan is one of three new models on the horizon expected to play a big role.

The exterior styling makeover is conservative, with Maserati retaining the current car’s grille, side vents and triangular C-pillar. A new beltline that runs the entire length of the car adds some muscularity to the new model.

Maserati provides scant details on the Quattroporte’s powertrain, saying only that new more powerful and fuel-efficient engines have been designed with Ferrari for the car and will be produced at Ferrari’s Maranello, Italy, plant.

The auto maker doesn’t say when the revamped model will hit the market.
