Admitting that Mercedes-Benz “customers are not happy with some details,” Juergen Hubbert, DaimlerChrysler AG board member in charge of Mercedes, Smart and Maybach, promises strong moves to boost quality of the prestige cars.

“Mercedes customers expect more,” Hubbert says, adding that he has initiated programs to achieve that goal. Some suppliers already have been terminated for sub-par quality, and others “might have to change,” he warns.

J.D. Power quality ratings showed the ‘02 Mercedes M-Class SUV scored lower on feature, accessory, body and interior quality compared to the ‘02 Lexus RX 300 and Acura MDX SUVs.

The Mercedes S-Class sedan also scored lower than the Lexus LS 430 on mechanical, feature and accessory quality as well as ratings for other creature comforts.
