Buying an all-new '05 Mini convertible is somewhat of an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
When making the purchase, customers first must sign a “Convertible Contract” containing “the 90/10 clause,” says a BMW of North America spokesman.
The clause states that the owner agrees to drive with the top down no less than 90% of the time and with the top up no more than 10% of the time.
It also states that the only reasons for allowing the top up are when motoring in the rain, through a car wash, when the temperature is below 32° F, after hair plug surgery, within earshot of an outdoor banjo or kazoo concert, when it's raining frogs or locusts, or when avoiding teenage groupies.
The spokesman says the contract, of course, is tongue in cheek, but notes it must be signed in triplicate.
