Carbon Motors Corp., a new U.S. auto maker with plans to produce “the world’s first purpose-built law-enforcement patrol vehicle,” selects the greater-Atlanta area as the location for its headquarters.

The complex will include a research and development center, production facility and First Responder retail operation, the Georgia Dept. of Economic Development says.

Carbon Motors, which selected Georgia following a multi-state search, plans to work with state officials and local contractors to decide the best site for the metro Atlanta campus.

The auto maker also expects to collaborate with the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Savannah School of Art and Design for technology research, design and applied engineering support.

“With our primary focus on substantially improving the effectiveness and safety of our law-enforcement first responders, we have a wonderful opportunity to create a significant number of new jobs, to support Homeland Security, and to do so in an environmentally responsible manner,” says Carbon Motors Chairman and CEO William Santana Li.
