BARCELONA ─ Local automaker SEAT unveils refreshed Ibiza and Alhambra models laden with infotainment and connectivity features at the Barcelona Auto Show.

The Ibiza has been the foundation of the Volkswagen subsidiary’s sales for many difficult years, and the automaker considers the updated range a qualitative leap as it prepares to launch all-new models in 2018.

While maintaining its exterior design, the ’15 Ibiza includes electronics such as a 6.5-in. (16.5-cm) touchscreen, USB connector, Bluetooth, audio streaming, navigation, compatibility with smartphones running on either Android or iOS operating systems and the MirrorLink system that displays the user interface of the smartphone applications on the infotainment screen.

The ’15 Ibiza also features a newly designed instrument panel and fully customizable interiors.

The refreshed Ibiza has new suspension ratings and a new steering system, as well as the latest VW Group range of lower-displacement but more powerful and efficient Euro 6 gasoline and diesel engines with lower fuel consumption and emissions.

The entry-level engine is a naturally aspirated 1.0L 3-cyl. gasoline mill producing 75 hp or a turbocharged version making up to 110 hp at maximum torque of 147 lb.-ft. (200 Nm).

A new 1.4L 3-cyl. turbocharged diesel achieves 75-hp with 69 mpg (3.4 L/100 km) and carbon-dioxide emissions of 88 g/km. Fuel economy of the other turbocharged diesels making 90 or 105 hp is at least 62 mpg (3.8 L/100 km), the automaker says.

The Alhambra, which set sales records in 2014, is updated for ’15 with new taillamp clusters with LED technology, a new brand logo located on the grille and a redesigned rear hatch, steering wheel and wheels. The interior is available with new trim colors.

The refreshed Alhambra comes equipped with a new generation of the SEAT Easy Connect infotainment system featuring a high-resolution touchscreen and upgraded processors that help speed up connectivity and calculate routes more quickly.

Standard equipment includes a multicollision braking system that automatically activates the car’s brakes after an accident to avoid secondary collisions. Options include adaptive chassis control and newly engineered seats with massage function.

The ’15 Alhambra’s gasoline and diesel engine lineup has been completely revamped. All comply with Euro 6 emissions regulations and the turbocharged direct-injection units are 15% more fuel-efficient.
