Several top suppliers have signed on to support the Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration (AMI-C), the umbrella organization formed by automakers in 1999 to develop a common automotive multimedia interface for vehicle communication networks. By the end of 2002, the non-profit group hopes to complete standard specifications for in-vehicle electronic devices and services, such as personal digital assistants and cellular phones. AMI-C's new backers include Acunia, Alpine Electronics Research of America, Delphi Automotive Systems, Motorola, Navigation Technologies Corp., Sumitomo Electric Industries, Visteon Corp. and Yazaki Corp. Participating suppliers need not make any equity investments in AMI-C.
