Eberspaecher, a global Tier 1 supplier of exhaust technology, opens its Asia Test Center in Shanghai, China.
The new center combines the company’s exhaust-technology testing expertise and prototyping operations for customers in Asia, Eberspaecher says in a news release.
The 40,900-sq.-ft. (3,800-sq-m) test center houses a prototype shop and the technology to test exhaust systems from the material and component level to the system level for cars and commercial vehicles.
“This new center offers us the opportunity to develop and validate exhaust systems under customer-specific conditions and in a much faster time,” says York Zhao, vice president-Eberspaecher Asia. “This includes but is not limited to SCR performance testing for diesel engines as well as engine- and vehicle-level acoustic testing in a semi-anechoic room.”
Besides technologies for future emission standards, customer demand is growing in Asia for low noise and high sound quality of exhaust systems, Eberspaecher says. The semi-anechoic room utilizes a room-in-room concept solution with a background noise level of only 25 dBA.
“We are serving our customers with several production plants in Asia already for many years,” says Thomas Waldhier, chief operating officer-Exhaust Technology for Eberspaecher. “Now we can offer our longstanding exhaust-technology testing expertise locally – a huge milestone for efficient development of next-generation exhaust systems.”
The Test Center is directly attached to the existing Eberspaecher site in Shanghai, where over 400 employees develop and manufacture exhaust systems. Through close cooperation between development and production, customer requests can be resolved quickly, the company says.
Eberspaecher also operates exhaust-technology testing sites in Esslingen, Germany, and Novi, MI.
