Toyota Motor North America Inc. Senior Vice President Dennis Cuneo has left the auto work to join Washington-based law firm Arent Fox, effective Oct. 1.
Before joining Toyota in the mid 1980s, Cuneo worked for the firm on its Toyota account, Arent Fox says.
Cuneo, who was in charge of selecting manufacturing sites for the auto maker reportedly will stay on as a consultant to Toyota’s North American manufacturing and engineering units.
He was the first American to join the management team at Toyota’s first plant in the U.S., New United Motor Mfg. Inc., a joint venture with General Motors Corp. in Fremont, CA.
While he was embroiled in a sexual harrasment lawsuit emanating from TMNA’s New York City office in the spring, he tells Bloomberg he has been thinking about leaving the auto maker since early this year.
In May, former TMNA CEO Hideaki Otaka was accused of sexual harassment by his assistant, who claimed Cuneo failed to act on her complaints.
The lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed sum in August. Toyota says Jim Press, president-TMNA, will assume some of Cuneo’s responsibilities.
