Toyota Australia Exports to Middle East Hit 1 Million
The Japanese automaker’s Australian subsidiary reached 1 million exports to its other overseas markets in August 2012.
Toyota Australia exports its 1 millionth vehicle to the Middle East just 17 years after trade began.
Shipments of Camry and Aurion vehicles to the region peaked in 2008 with 97,153 units exported.
The Japanese automaker’s Australian subsidiary reached 1 million exports to its other major overseas markets in August 2012.
Dave Buttner, executive vice president and chief operating officer, says exports play a vital part in Toyota Australia’s balanced business model.
“To ensure we understand the needs of the market, Toyota Australia has key support employees living in the region to constantly talk to our customers and distributors about their needs and reaction to our products,” Buttner says in a statement.
“Through this information and our extensive knowledge of the Middle East, we are able to build high-quality and durable vehicles that can withstand all weather conditions and local terrain.”
Toyota Australia last year exported 72,899 Camry and Aurion vehicles, accounting for about 70% of its production. Of these, about 97% were sent to the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The rest went to New Zealand and the South Pacific islands.
