Ford adds three models to its Explorer SUV lineup for 2021.

They include a lower-priced Explorer Enthusiast ST, a better-value rear-wheel-drive Explorer Platinum and a high-end Platinum Hybrid.

The Enthusiast ST is the new Standard Equipment Group within the ST model and features the looks and performance of Explorer ST at a base price of $49,995. It has the same specially tuned 3.0L EcoBoost V-6 making 400 hp and 415 lb.-ft. (562 Nm) of torque combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission and sport-tuned suspension.

The powertrain enables a top track speed of 143 mph (230 km/h), which Ford says is “unmatched at this price point in this segment.” A standard Class III Trailer Tow Package provides towing capability of up to 5,600 lbs. (2,540 kg).

The Explorer Enthusiast ST interior features leather seating surfaces and City Silver accent stitching with ST logo, in addition to a 12.3-in. (31-cm) infotainment screen and heated steering wheel. Outside, the Enthusiast ST sports quad chrome exhaust tips, 20-in. machined aluminum wheels and sideview mirrors with ST projection lamps.

The Explorer Enthusiast ST also features standard Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist technology including blindspot information system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system, hill start assist, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and forward collision warning.

Also new for ’21 is a 3.0L rear-wheel-drive Platinum option, in addition to the premium all-wheel-drive model. The RWD option provides customers a better value, offering the right equipment for markets where AWD is not necessary, Ford says.

Upscale Platinum differentiators include door handles with satin aluminum inserts, lower bodyside cladding inserts, roof-rack side rails and a unique grille with satin aluminum finish. Platinum models feature a standard twin-panel moonroof, special leather seats, plus leather-wrapped steering wheel, dashboard and door and front console armrests.

Ford says for the first time, Explorer Platinum is available as a hybrid (below), with a base price of $53,085. With Platinum Hybrid, a full hybrid-electric powertrain is added to the highest-spec Explorer series to give customers even more choice and fuel efficiency, the automaker says.

The Explorer Enthusiast ST, rear-wheel-drive Platinum and Platinum Hybrid arrive at Ford dealers this summer.
