U.K. vehicle design and engineering start-up Callum unveils its vision of a performance battery-electric vehicle aimed squarely at the hard-core SUV consumer.
Its Skye 2+2 hardtop multi-terrain vehicle is the company’s first model fully conceived, designed and engineered in-house. Naturally, it’s all-wheel drive measuring 4,047 mm (13.3 ft.) long and 1,900 mm (6.2 ft.) wide and built on a space-frame chassis.
Its 42-kWh lithium-ion battery pack claims an anticipated range of 170 miles (274 km), with customers able to choose the option of an ultra-fast-charging battery claiming an empty-to-full charge in under 10 minutes. Lightweighting results in a dry curb weight of 1,150 kg (2,530 lbs.), a 50/50 weight distribution and an expected 0-60 mph (97 km/h) sprint time of under 4 seconds.
Callum says the Skye is undergoing engineering refinement and rigorous testing in the U.K. and Europe ahead of releasing details of definitive specifications and curated variants in spring 2024. Head designer Ian Callum says: “At four meters long, the Callum Skye is dramatically proportioned with a concise exterior aesthetic driven by its capabilities. It has been designed to exceed expectations: minimal mass, maximum capability, exceptionally usable and an absolute joy to drive.”
