Volkswagen adds a splash of color, enhanced connectivity and a new powertrain to its tiny Up! model, as it unleashes a second-series version of the car at next month’s Geneva auto show.
Under the hood is a new 1.0L TSI engine that delivers 89 hp and 118 lb.-ft. (160 Nm) of torque. VW says the direct-injected, turbocharged 3-cyl. is the most powerful engine to be offered in the Up! so far.
Top speed is 115 mph (185 km/h) and fuel economy is rated at 53.6 mpg (4.4 L/100 km). Acceleration to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes 10 seconds.
Connectivity is being enhanced via a USB port and Bluetooth, with better integration of smartphone mapping and entertainment features via VW’s “Maps + More” app.
A new Up! Beats model puts the accent on sound, with a 300-watt stereo system from BeatsAudio.
Exterior chances include new LED headlamps with daytime running lights, new bumpers, revised taillights and new seat designs. The revamped model now offers 13 body colors, with three roof accent colors and nine exterior decals.
