Magna is investigating the possibility of copying its Graz, Austria, manufacturing scheme in North America in the coming years. The niche vehicle manufacturer builds vehicles in Graz for DaimlerChrysler AG, BMW AG and Saab Automobile. (See related story: Magna Says North American Plant On Radar)

Pischetsrieder says VW will not make a decision on the possibility of producing vehicles in the U.S. until at least the end of the decade. The auto maker currently has numerous underutilized plants in Europe and South America.
