Chevrolet’s first battery-electric pickup hits the dealer forecourts promising eye-watering performance at an eye-watering price.
Yet, the '24 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition’s $94,500 sticker (plus $1,995 destination charge) is still some $9,000 less than the $105,000 (without DFC) that the automaker announced when the vehicle was unveiled last autumn.
Nonetheless, it also boasts upgrades such as an increased claimed maximum range of 440 miles (708 km), up from 400 miles (644 km), and it now boasts a complimentary 19.2-Kw GM Energy Powershift Charger for original consumers who placed an order.
The First Edition offers Wide Open Watts (WOW) performance mode offering up to 754 hp and 785 lb-ft. (1,064 Nm) of torque. Chevrolet claims this is enough for a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) sprint time for the beefy truck of less than 4.5 seconds.
The automaker claims the Silverado EV can tow up to 10,000 lbs. (4,536 kg), with a 1,300-lb. (590-kg) payload capacity and boasts its Multi-Flex Midgate loading system which, when paired with the Multi-Flex Tailgate, improves storage capacity from 5 ft., 11 ins. (1,803 mm) to 10 ft., 10 ins. (3,302 mm).
The Silverado EV RST also includes the capability to output 7.2 kw of off-board power for camping or work onsite. Chevrolet says this can be boosted to 10.2 kw with an optional extra PowerBase power bar. For charging, it is compatible with standard DC fast charging capable up to 350 kW.
Other standout features include 4-wheel steering to improve maneuvering, four-corner air ride adaptive suspension, Super Cruise with trailering, Chevy Safety Assist, 24-in. wheels and a fixed-glass roof with increased headroom. Cabin technology includes a 17-in. (43-cm) diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen paired with an 11-in. (28-cm) diagonal reconfigurable driver information display and 14-in. (36-cm) diagonal field of view Head-Up Display.
In the future, Chevrolet says it will roll out a suite of Silverado EV trims for retail customers, offered with a variety of range options. Customer deliveries are expected to begin by midyear.
