Alfa Romeo Sports Car to Debut Aug. 30
Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato suggests the 6C’s design will draw on the Tipo 33 Stradale, a sports car produced between 1967 and 1969 as a road-legal version of the automaker’s Tipo 33 race car.
Alfa Romeo confirms plans to unveil a limited-production sports car inspired by the 56-year-old Tipo 33 Stradale on Aug. 30.
The range-topping Alfa Romeo, expected to wear the name 6C, is previewed in an image released by the Italian automaker, together with the catchphrase “dare to dream.”
The location of the unveiling is Alfa Romeo’s museum in Arese on the outskirts of Milan.
The Aug. 30 date provided by Alfa Romeo suggests the unveiling of the 6C will coincide with the 2023 Italian Grand Prix at the nearby Monza race circuit.
Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato says of the sports car, “This project is a dream come true, inspired by a daring team that wanted to achieve something unique.”
Imparato told media representatives in February that deposits for the 6C were being taken. “It will be sold out before I unveil the car,” he suggested.
Imparato says the 6C will reflect the DNA of the Alfa Romeo brand and hints it will feature a design inspired by the earlier Tipo 33 Stradale, a low-slung sports car produced by Alfa Romeo between 1967 and 1969 as a road-legal version of the company’s Tipo 33 race car.
The power source for the sports car remains under wraps, though speculation centers around the Giulia Quadrifoglio'’s twin-turbocharged 2.9L gasoline V-6. It develops 520 hp in the 4-door sedan, but Alfa Romeo insiders say the powerplant will receive even greater reserves in the 6C.
