Thousands of people crowded today into an economically disadvantaged part of Detroit's Corktown neighborhood to celebrate Ford's announced purchase and planned renovation of the Michigan Central Station, which opened in 1913 and was a hub for Detroit train travelers until it closed in 1988 and became a symbol of urban blight and "ruin porn." As many as 5,000 people -- about half of them from Ford's mobility team -- are expected to be working at the former depot by 2022.
