JLR’s In-House Digital Solution to Boost Production Efficiencies
British automaker plumps for Tata Communications to steer its digitalized global production processes.
Jaguar Land Rover is teaming up with its owner’s connectivity wing in a bid to future-proof its digital offering to consumers.
The British automaker is working with Tata Communications in a bid to reach new standards such as Industry 4.0 and advanced analytics. This move illustrates JLR’s recognition that the digital world goes beyond in-car user experience and affects all aspects of the production and delivery process.
Tata Communications will now deploy its cloud-first, software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) technology, connecting all of the automaker’s 128 global sites. This connected capability, between JLR’s global headquarters and its plants, warehouses, sales centers, data centers and cloud services, could boost supply chain efficiency and security.
The automaker is also placing great faith in enabling artificial intelligence-powered and real-time data capturing, monitoring and analysis to improve production line performance. JLR also hopes the partnership will shorten the time to upgrade manufacturing processes, strengthen operational resilience and increase agility to meet production demands.
Tata Communications already has commenced implementation of the network transformation program and will complete the deployment by 2025. JLR’s group chief digital and information officer, Tony Battle, says: “Moving to SD-WAN means we can use AI-powered automation to predict vulnerabilities, proactively intervene, prevent issues and perform more effectively on a global scale across our network. The cutting-edge connectivity platform will help us build the world-class ecosystem we need to deliver modern luxury vehicles and remarkable driving experiences.”
