Xpeng Brings In-Car Cloud Gaming to European Customers
Chinese automaker claims market first with on-board cloud gaming infotainment systems.
Chinese automaker Xpeng is using the in-car gaming experience to market its vehicles in Europe, claiming to be the first to offer cloud gaming on its displays.
The automaker says it achieves this thanks to a collaboration with Spanish technology company Ludium Lab and the European wing of Japanese mobile network software provider Access.
This project combines Access’s in-vehicle infotainment technology with Ludium Lab's cloud gaming platform to provide the automaker’s customers with "state-of-the-art" cloud gaming.
It claims Xpeng’s Xplay system can now give users access to a large catalog of PC, mobile and console games, including major AAA games and games exclusive to Ludium Lab. The automaker says a standout feature of the gaming performance is that 60-frames-per-second (FPS) full HD games can be played on its infotainment screens. Users do not need to download any games and the service includes parental controls. The Xplay service also uses a monthly subscription model.
Brian Gu, vice-chairman and president of Xpeng, says: “In-car entertainment is an increasingly important part of the car-buying decision, so offering an exciting portfolio of audio, games and video entertainment through Xplay is critical. The collaboration with Access Europe and Ludium Lab ensures that easy and enjoyable journeys in an Xpeng will be engaging for everyone thanks to the high-quality cloud gaming developed specifically for our extra-wide infotainment screens.”
