Henkel One-Silicone Potting Sealant Drives Auto Electronic Benefits

Henkel’s latest 1k silicone potting solution for ECU connectors is formulated to deliver process efficiency on the manufacturing floor, while reducing sustainability footprint & driving robust performance in use.

Process Efficiency

With the need for electronic adhesives to have a higher sensitivity-Henkel has developed a non-corrosive, safer potting solution. Loctite® SI 5035 is a one-part silicone potting sealant that features a change in the main chemical compound found in other sealants. Typically, these types of sealants contain acetoxy groups, which release highly corrosive acetic acid upon cure. With Loctite® SI 5035, Henkel substitutes the acetoxy moieties with alkoxy, resulting in a non-corrosive cure product. This compound is meant to provide a safe, odor free solution, while still being easy to dispense and highly flowable.

Increased Sustainability

With the use of UV curing, Loctite® SI 5035 requires less energy than the traditional thermal cure and allows for a cure time of 30 seconds. With its room temperature stability, energy requirements needed for storage are reduced. Additionally, rapid depth of cure also improves adhesion which allows reduced staging time between leak and cure testing.

Robust Performance

With Loctite® SI 5035 rapid depth of cure can be achieved by UV light and/or visible LED light in less than 30 seconds. This product provides excellent adhesion to both metals and most plastics. The product allows for high temperature performance under hood applications up to 150°C and is meant to withstand exposure to harsh automotive environments.

LOCTITE® SI 5035 is designed for engine control units, transmission control units, power steering modules and linear position sensors and is available for use in 5-gallon pails and 310 cc cartridges.
