MUNICH, Germany – BMW provides the first glimpse at an electric-powered CUV planned to be launched in 2026 as part of its Neue Klasse project.

Revealed briefly as a disguised prototype in a media presentation of the advanced BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept car in Munich on the weekend prior to the International Motor Show here, the new model is set to succeed the existing iX3.

Despite heavy focus on the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which previews plans for the next-generation 3-Series sedan, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse reveals during the presentation that the automaker is working on six new models as part of the Neue Klasse project, a broad-based design, engineering and sustainability program that aims to accelerate its EV development.

“The Neue Klasse is not just one car. It’s a completely new generation of cars. We plan to have six models on the road in 24 months between 2025 and 2027,” he says.

BMW confirms the first Neue Klasse production model will be a 4-door sedan in the mold of the Vision Neue Klasse concept. “In 2025, a production model with the design and technology showcased by the Vision Neue Klasse will hit the road,” says Zipse. It will be followed by five other electric models, including the closely related CUV previewed by BMW during its presentation (pictured, below).

Production of BMW’s Neue Klasse models will kick off in 2025 at its Debrecen plant in Hungary. Zipse also reveals plans to produce Neue Klasse models at BMW plants in Germany, China and Mexico.

During the presentation, Zipse says all of BMW's upcoming Neue Klasse models will receive a new dedicated EV platform and sixth-generation electric drivetrain that will provide the vehicles with a 20% improvement in energy density, 30% increase in charging speeds and 30% boost in range compared to their predecessors on sale today.
