Chrysler LLC is the biggest loser among the Big Three automakers, according to a new opinion survey released by Corporate Research International, a tracker of national trends.

The survey indicates 52% of Americans would be unlikely to purchase a Chrysler vehicle vs. 23% saying they'd likely purchase a Chrysler, suggesting that Chrysler continues to struggle even with a financial bail-out from U.S. tax payers.

Americans were more likely to purchase a General Motors or Ford brand product (40%) or Ford (41%).

The survey found that the political issue of government bailouts has minimal impact on American consumers' likelihood of purchasing a car from a manufacturer receiving a bailout.

Americans have a more positive outlook for foreign manufacturers. Fifty-four percent reported they were likely to purchase a vehicle from a foreign manufacturer, with 32% unlikely.

“This survey shows that the tumultuous U.S. automotive market is having an impact on how consumers are viewing American-made vehicles,” says Mike Mallett, CEO of Corporate Research International.

“Despite everything that's going on in the automotive business, results show that Americans are still going to be looking at which car company is offering the best deal, regardless of where that company is based.”
