VIENNA – Citroen Romania, the PSA Peugeot Citroen subsidiary responsible for Citroen imports into Romania, will close by the end of January.

Trust Motors, the company that has imported Peugeot vehicles to Romania since 1991, will add the Citroen brand distribution effective Feb. 1. The move is unusual, because auto makers typically take over distribution from independent importers.

Citroen Romania was created in 2007, when it assumed the activities of independent importer Automotive Trading Services.

Citroen sold 1,359 vehicles in Romania this year through November, down 30.7 % from like-2011. The total comprises 724 cars and 635 light-commercial vehicles.

The French auto maker’s best-selling models in Romania were the Citroen C4 hatchback with 178 units among cars and the Jumper commercial van with 401 units among LCVs.

Trust Motors sold 2,520 Peugeot vehicles between January and November, including 1,815 cars and 705 light-commercial vehicles, down 14.5 % from like-2011.

Peugeot ranks 10th and Citroen 18th in car sales in Romania. The brands are No.6 and 7 in LCV deliveries.
