Ward's 500 dealerships' $62.6 billion in total revenue sets a record, up from $59.7 billion in 2004. Here's a breakdown of that:

• Fixed-operations revenue: $7.8 billion

• Finance and insurance revenue: $2 billion

• Used-vehicle sales revenue: $12.1 billion

• New-vehicle sales revenue: $40.5 billion

• Average revenue per store: $125.1 million.

• 309 dealerships exceed the $100 million mark, up from 269 last year.

• The Ward's 500 sold 1,373,838 new vehicles in 2005. The record is 1.5 million sales in 2001.

• Used-car sales: 676,979

• Publicly held groups account for 209 dealerships on the list, with five of the six chains reporting this year.

• There are 100 luxury dealerships on this year's ranking, up from 81 last year.

• Ford Motor Co. had 67 dealerships on this year's list, down from 87 from last year and down from 138 in 2000.

• General Motors Corp.'s Chevrolet brand placed 58 dealerships on the ranking, 21 fewer than last year.
