Dealer sponsors police memorial benefit

A Phoenix dealer is sponsoring an event to raise money for a memorial honoring an officer killed in the line of duty. A Phoenix dealer is sponsoring an event to raise money for a memorial honoring an officer killed in the line of duty.

Rusty Childress, president of Childress Automall, says the event is the First Annual Phoenix Law Enforcement Association's Police Memorial, an escorted motorcycle ride on Dec. 29.

All proceeds will go to the construction of a life-size bronze portrait of Officer Marc Atkinson who died in 1999. The memorial, designed by another Phoenix officer, Tim White, will be in front of the Marc Atkinson Recreation Center.
