Tim Mahoney, currently chief product and marketing officer for Volkswagen of America, will join General Motors April 1 as its top global marketing executive for the Chevrolet brand.
Mahoney also will fill the global marketing operations leader slot for GM, a position that has been occupied on an interim basis by Alan Batey, vice president-U.S. Sales and Service.
Batey temporarily took over the post in July when GM fired Joel Ewanick after he failed to disclose the full financial details of a high-profile marketing contract between Chevrolet and U.K. soccer team Manchester United. Mahoney will report to Batey.
“Tim’s experience and passion for the automotive marketing business, combined with his innovative and collaborative style, has made him one of the most respected marketers in the business,” Batey says in a statement.
“His background and experience is a perfect fit for Chevrolet at the perfect time. With more than 20 new product launches around the world in 2013, Tim will play a key role as we continue to grow the brand globally.”
Mahoney has held his current position at VWA since May 2011. Prior to that, he held the top marketing job with Subaru of America, which he initially joined in 1984, before leaving for a similar spot at Porsche Cars North America. He returned to Subaru in 2006.
