Suzuki Building Concept X at CAMI

NEW YORK – American Suzuki Motor Corp. confirms it will build a production version of its Concept X cross/utility vehicle, exhibited at this year's Detroit auto show, at its CAMI Automotive Inc. plant in Ingersoll, Ont., Canada.
Tom Carney, sales and marketing director-American Suzuki, tells reporters here at the New York auto show that Suzuki will produce 50,000 units of the model annually. CAMI, a joint venture with General Motors Corp., produces the Chevrolet Equinox CUV.
The Suzuki CUV will be added in late 2006 as an '07 model, Carney says.

The V-6 powered unibody will serve as replacement for the aging XL-7 SUV. (See related story: Suzuki Adding Utility Vehicles)
Meanwhile, Carney says a production version of the Concept-X2 CUV shown here also is on tap, and will debut before the Concept X production model in first-quarter 2006.
In January, Suzuki said the small CUV would go on sale this fall as an ’06 model.
Both models will have new monikers for the production versions, Carney says.
