The U.K. electric-vehicle sector takes another step forward with the first warranties being offered for EVs that have outlived their manufacturers’ warranty.
Extended-warranty provider Warrantywise says it is the first in the U.K. to offer aftermarket coverage for EVs with introductory prices from £55 ($87) a month.
It says there are about 40,000 EVs on U.K. roads, and those that have outlived their manufacturers’ warranty face potentially high repair and parts replacement costs.
Warrantywise excludes EV battery repairs and replacement from its warranty, citing existing extended cover offered by manufacturers on a highly specialized, technical and expensive component.
CEO Lawrence Whittaker says the company is a longtime supporter of EV technology.
“We are delighted to see their impressive rise in popularity across the U.K.,” Whittaker says. “Having studied the repair and parts replacement costs of EVs, it is clear that there is a market and a call for extended warranty.”
