Yamaha is teaming up with the niche British sports-car brand Caterham to accelerate plans for production of a battery-electric model.

It’s a little over a year since Caterham unveiled its Project V concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, followed by a second showing at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Now the prototype version will add Yamaha’s technological expertise to develop and supply and e-axle for the sports coupe.

This prototype is currently being developed by Tokyo R&D, a specialist engineering house with a proven track record for developing major automaker-commissioned prototype and production vehicles. It is scheduled to be completed by mid-2025.

Caterham says its collaboration with Yamaha will deliver a powertrain to match its customers’ expectations and accelerate the delivery of Project V to market.
